Sounds like possibly a bad install. Did you read the Installation section of readme.txt? Also be sure you have the latest version of BF1942 installed. From what I gather, the law at least used to be that you needed to wait some 90 years after the author died for software to be free in the public domain, but I think that was reduced to 15 years recently. The publisher could also release it at any time, but most of them don't do that for a long time...

I understand the difference between publisher and developer, although for certain aspects I'm unsure which has the role, so I usually mention both (as I did in my last post about Epic/Atari). EA is much better handling original EA titles and they care considerably less about sequels, only continuing...

BF1942 map: Battleship

Some of you probably know my first map, Stunting Grounds, which I've put a lot of time into over the years. Well, I've made another map, this time much simpler and I doubt it can ever get very complicated since it's pretty much just water and ships. The compressed file size is very small, so dial-up...

BF1942 happens to be my favorite game of all time, and BF2 is pretty good too. I agree EA is juicing it too far (as with all the games they own) with so many sequels and expansion packs that do less than typical mods and cost money. BF2142 is going too far with the BF sequels, I liked BF for the his...

I figured that the best way to stay synchronized is to have meetings, and they would be especially important in pivotal moments. I'm going to schedule the first meeting in TeamSpeak, open to anyone who comes, for April 30th unless I hear that it's a bad day for other people and a better day can be d...

Critical updates will be the last thing to go, and considering how long they supported critical updates for 98 and 2000 (until last year), I doubt they would cut critical support for XP so soon considering how incredibly popular it has been. The only reason they would cut critical support this year ...

That sounds like themes instead of effects. Isn't Aero the glass effect? I'm sure it can be disabled without losing the Vista theme, sorta like what the pirates get with illegal copies.

How difficult is it to disable Aero? I don't think it would be much harder than disabling XP effects, which involves no effort at all, just maybe 20 seconds of time.

Microsoft will support XP at least a few more years. It took them about 5 years after XP released to drop support for 98 and 2000, there's no way they'll drop support for XP within a year of the Vista release, especially with the current condition of Vista drivers and various bugs.

It would be funny if the results show Vista to be better, but I have my doubts.

I have a few old Win95/98 games that don't work on XP even with compatibility, one of them is because it calls for a swap file or something that only exists in 95 or 98. I saw Vista Home Basic in the store for $100 for the upgrade and $200 for the full. I also found on Newegg that there's a "Sy...
